Lindsey's Book Recs!

War Of The Worlds by H. G. Wells

WOW!

I never thought I could like a classic sci-fi book like I did this one!

I read this book in just about two sittings, due to its size and it had me sucked in with every word that I read.

Knowing also, the history behind it and the broadcast that caused mass hysteria of a radio re-telling of it, and the movie that came out based on it, I couldn't help but pick it up.

A plus with picking a classic, is that you can get it for a bargain most times! I bought my copy second hand, and it was just as good as brand new, if not better because I felt better about buying it for a good deal!

If you don’t think that you like Sci-fi books, at least try this one!

Missing Pieces: 4 Cozy Puzzling Mysteries!

This book was a little daunting from the outside simply just because of its size, but the second you start each book inside it flies by.

I assumed from the outside that most of the books would be exactly the same because how can you come up with four different murder mystery books involving jigsaw puzzles, but they were each unique.

Not only were they unique but they were complementary. They smoothly went into the next one even though they were each very different plots.

I would definitely recommend this for a good cozy read!

Love By Chance by Kacy Cross

I found this book BY CHANCE at a store, saw the Hallmark Publishing seal and decided to take a chance on it and it definitely had me hooked.

I was reading it on breaks at my job hoping to get as much of the story in before I had to stop reading.

When I first started reading I figured it would be like most books in the genre… completely predictable and sweet, but this book had so much more!

Let’s just say that I was very pleasantly surprised and finished feeling enjoyment waiting until I decide to read it again!

The Game Changer by Jennifer Brown

The reason I bought this book was because it had so many of my favorite things… Murder mysteries, baking and also podcasts!

Baking and mysteries just go together but adding in the aspect of the podcast was one of the main things that caught my attention.

This book was among a few of the books I've read this year that I have made myself slow down for. I was holding my breath to the last page not wanting to miss anything and was surprised when I could guess the killer for most of the book.

If you decide to read this, you might need a crime board to keep up with all of its developments!

A Wife Worth More Than Rubies by Jessica Collamati

I have so much praise for this book!

Very rarely do I read non-fiction books, but after being sent this one I tried it out and did not regret picking it up!

Throughout the book, you can hear the author's motherly writing voice that takes the beautiful topic of a godly marriage and helps all those who read it understand how to glorify God with your marriage.

I will most likely be reading this again when I am closer to marriage, but I still thinks it applies to those who are unmarried to prepare themselves for what is to come and how to keep marriage a godly joining.

Roping in the cowboy next door by June B. Anderson

I only have two words to describe anything by this author… Cute and Perfect!!!! It is so cozy and helped me to end my days on a good note.

I wish I was more like Casey (main character) because she is so confidently flirty and it’s to the point it’s infectious!

How she charms Beckett and the animals she cares for in such a loving way, a big difference from the manipulative way people charm today.

I started the next one in the series, and it is already soooo good!

Go check out this series!

The Writing Desk by Rachel Hauck

If you are a writer, you can relate to this book.

If you have ever wanted to find treasure in a yard sale item, you can relate to this.

If you have ever wanted a furniture designer to fall in love with you, you can relate to this?

The Writing Desk is an adventure to say the least.

Tenley Roth, an author with a best-selling first book, has the pressure of writing another best-seller worthy book.

Birdie Sherhorn has everything pre-decided for her by her overbearing mother.

What connects them? A desk with a past and future.

Rachel Hauck can only write amazing books, and this continues to prove my point!

The You You Know by Lindsey Forkel

Yes, I am biased!

My second book was recently released, and I have to recommend it.

The You You Know centers on Nova Aviva as she goes on a journey to discover who she is if she doesn’t know what she looks like.

Confused?

In this future, the suicide rates have come to an all-time high, causing the government to bring forth The Switch. The Switch causes every man and woman to change bodies. EVERY. DAY.

Nova’s pain and past hurt were hard to write through. (Tears were flowing, to say the least)

If you want to know who you are, check out my new book, available on my website, Amazon, and Kindle Unlimited!
Do you know who you are?

The Socialite by J’nell Ciesielski

This is on my top ten books now!

I recently finished this book and was left shocked by the amazing writing, storyline and characters.

It has romance, thrill, war, Paris, and nicknames, what could be better than that?

The story centers around Kat, an english socialite in the 1930’s, and her attempt to bring her sister home after she flees to Paris with her Nazi boyfriend.

I have no way to put into words how much I enjoyed it.

The Delusion by Laura Gallier

I was so surprised by how good this was!

I’ve read several books about seeing into the spiritual realm, but this book took it to a new level.

The idea is that Owen is in high school, and during his senior year there are over a dozen suicides that happen within his school.

Through curious circumstances he is gifted with the ability to see the real culprit behind the deaths.

I can’t wait to read the others in the series, but i wouldn’t be surprised if they get recommended as well!

All you need is a little perspective… And this book gives it to you.

A Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joann Fluke

If you want a murder mystery series that you can fall in love with, this is where it is at.

There are many books in this series and it’s for a good reason.

They are all very easy to read and keep up with and have recipes for you to make along the way.

The first in the series, A Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, has a few side plots that weren’t my favorite, but luckily they don’t make it into the other books, and they only get better as you read them.

And if you like these books, there is also a movie series, Murder She Baked! Available on Hallmark channel.

Fifth Avenue Story Society by Rachel Hauck

This is such a GOOD BOOK!

I re-read it every year and I can't get enough of it.

It follows the story of five people, Jett, Lexa, Chuck, Coral, and Ed, as they get a mysterious invitation to an unknown literary society.

The small club ends up discussing more than books as their life unfolds outside the society.

There is romance, mystery, and fun, focusing on the importance of forgiving and moving on.

I can’t go without this book. It is that good!

Does contain some serious topics, though it is a christian book. I Wouldn't recommend it for younger teens.

The Girl behind The Red Rope by Ted DeKker and Rachelle DeKker

Another one of my favorite Ted DeKker books, and his daughter co-wrote it!

In The Girl Behind The Red Rope, an entire community is held safe and protected from the evil that has tormented the rest of the world.

Fear of what’s outside this safe haven has plagued one of its residents, but not as much as being held to unreasonable standards.

The DeKker’s have a talent that runs in the family.

They immerse you in thrilling stories, including this one.

And if you aren’t already hooked, here is a popular excerpt from the book:

The biggest lie is that fear will keep you safe in the darkness, but fear is the darkness. So round and round you go, fighting darkness with darkness. Better to open your eyes and see the light. In that light, there is no darkness. So you’ve always been safe. You just don’t know it because you’re blind to who you are as the light.

The Choosing by Rachelle DeKker

Through The Choosing, a ceremony meant to yield a dreamlike life, Carrington Hale was supposed to have all she could want.

When it ends in disaster she is left trying to figure out how to live life in her newfound chaos.

She tries to continue her life after being demoted to the lowest class. However, rumors of what must be lies make her feel confused about how life has been for so long.

Carrington is relatable.

She makes you realize you would do the same in her situation.

Even if I found myself wanting to throw the book out of stress of all that happens.

Definitely a one or two day read, because once you start you won't want to stop.

And to help with that need there are two more books to follow in the series.

Butterflies by Susanne Gervay

We all compare ourselves to others.

We want to look like others because we are insecure about ourselves.

For Katherine, she has little hope of becoming like others.

The chance was taken away from her at the age of three when she was severely burned resulting in lasting scars across her body.

In Butterflies, she is nearing her 18th birthday.

With this upcoming stage of life rushing towards her she has to make decisions about her future and come to terms with her past.

The book celebrates our triumphs over pain and trauma as we experience life through a fighter's eyes.

The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

There is a reason classics are classic!

This book can be enjoyed by young and old.

Whether you are just now able to read it or you are reading it to bring back memories it is and will always be a remarkable book.

In the book, Lucy, Peter, Edmund, and Susan Pevensie are siblings who have been evacuated due to war.

They have been taken from their home in London to live with Professor Digory in his country house.

They discover a magical land they can access through a wardrobe in the house.

The entire story creates a magical picture of beauty and sacrifice.

Lewis describes Jesus in his telling of Aslan, and with that in your mind while reading it brings more emotion to what is written.

I hope that this story stays with this new generation, as it did with the last several, bringing wonder into their lives.

Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge

I have been known to only like Fiction books, but this book has changed my mind, and heart.

As a woman of God it’s important to know your worth.

In the Book Captivating you learn how a woman's soul works.

It tells of how a woman’s heart works, how Eve’s decisions have had an effect in many different ways.

As a woman it brings clarity to have someone who understands a woman’s heart from a christian point of view and how God and other men interact with our emotions.

It ends with sharing how irreplaceable our role is as a woman. How our beauty, mothering qualities and strength are needed in God’s perfect creation.

Thr3e by Ted DeKker

I am back with my second book rec!

Ted DeKker is a classic Christian thriller and horror writer, and one of my favorites.

In Thr3e Kevin gets strange calls from a man named Slater who wants him to confess his sins or he will blow up.

It’s an intense opening and the entire book is similar.

The entire book is an emotional rollercoaster and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Also the ending I didn’t see coming at all.

Ted DeKker has a talent for writing books of many varieties all with good versus evil as the premise.

The Gifting By K.E. Ganshert

I chose this as my first book recommendation for so many reasons.

When I was about 15 I fell into a reading slump. I still liked the idea of reading and books but I couldn't get the energy to read.

This book got me back into reading.

In the book Tess Eckhart is the class weirdo. She’s basically invisible to everyone around her, until things spiral out of control resulting in a move from Florida to California.

She  has to see a psychiatrist while there and she truly starts to believe she is crazy.

Until she meets Luka Williams.

Let’s just say it gives me Christian Twilight vibes, without vampires funnily.

It focuses a lot (without saying) on spiritual warfare.

Presenting how God and the Devil work in people’s lives and also the danger of seemingly harmless things.

This book is perfect for teens and young adults.

It has some romance but never takes it too far. (There is an obvious line it doesn’t cross.)
